Pharmacy First - How it works

Provides a summary of the required steps and process to support your practice to refer patients to this service

At your request, we switch on a new page within your patient form which requires patients to make a choice. If they have one of the suitable conditions they can request a video consultation with a pharmacist, find their local pharmacy if they prefer to walk in for a face to face appointment, or they can proceed to submit their request to the practice.

The video consultations are provided by pharmacists across England who have signed up for the service.

If the patient chooses to have a video consultation, they can immediately book this the same day with a pharmacist.

If the patient receives advice and/or needs a prescription, the pharmacist sends a coded summary of the consultation from the point of care system into the patient health record and the patient receives their medication through NHS mail the following day.

If they need to be referred back to the practice, the pharmacist will send a summary through the practice NHS mail account, or if urgent to a designated email address.

The video below shows a demo of a consultation.

If you would like to switch this on for your practice please contact UKcustomersuccess@klinik.co.uk

We will create a unique link for your practice to connect to the service.

We can also

1. Supply a link for staff referrals to the service which you can send by SMS.

2. Add a tile in Connect which includes the link for staff to book the patients in. (note if this option is used the staff member would need to add the patient details including their number and verify the contact number through a code on the call) The data from this unique link can also be tracked. You can see an example of this below.

PF Connect

3. Create a link for your website and provide banners which allows the patient to access the service even when your online service is closed.

Important: For any consultations that have taken place your patients medical record will be automatically updated from the pharmacy system but you need to ensure that your GP Connect is switched on for the following category ‘GP Connect: Update record’

For any cases that are referred back to practice, they will be sent to your NHS general email address but our Customer Success team can add an alternative address for this purpose if you would prefer.
